The Surrey Care Trust is passionate about innovative and alternative approaches to education because we see the potential that learning new skills has to change lives.
We provide opportunities for people of all ages who have limited skills and poor qualifications to transform their prospects and aspirations through our innovative programmes and training courses.
We also nurture the abilities, ambitions and self-confidence of under-achieving young people who find it hard to fit into mainstream school, and who could face a whole lifetime of disadvantage without a second chance to develop their talents and abilities.
Lack of qualifications means low incomes, a precarious existence financially and often poverty of aspiration. By helping people to overcome economic and social disadvantage through learning, we believe that not only do they benefit personally, but that the wider community also gains. When people are better equipped with skills to help them find a job and support them in bringing up their children they can make a positive contribution to society.
The Surrey Care Trust also runs a volunteering scheme as part of the activities of its Swingbridge Community Boat programme and a Crisis Grants Fund assisting people facing hardship in all parts of Surrey.
